I chose to stay at the George Hotel because of its proximity to the bus stop (from Norwich) and its quaint, historical character, as well as being so close to all the shops, which all turned out to be perfect. Aside from this, the room was spacious, the bathroom too. The TV was quite large, the wifi worked like a dream and the tea-making provisions were also plentiful. Everything was clean and there weren't even very many stairs. The room was quiet almost the whole time, except for a Friday evening Abba soiree downstairs, but even that was only 8-11pm, so all in all, it was pretty great really. I'd happily stay there again. (I found out on the last night that there were even free breakfasts to visitors with a room which would've been wonderful, I'm sure. There is also a bookcase full of DVDs on the landing.)

A clean and well positioned hotel made 5 star by the friendly and efficient staff,always willing to help.

Great place to stay,very warm and friendly. Great location for exploring North Devon. Highly recommend.

It isvery old building which adds to tis charm but makes access to first and second floors for over 8o's difficult. I probably would not have booked the stay had I know about the incredibly steep and narrow stairs to our room.

The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. The room and bathroom was clean and well decorated. And, breakfast was phenomenal.

The George is ideally located in the center of town near to a bus stop. Everything about our stay was wonderful; a large en-suite room beautifully decorated with large bathroom. We ate dinner at the George day of arrival which was delicious and breakfast was fabulous. I highly recommend the George.

a visit to Newent
The George is a pleasant, old fashioned hotel which, while lacking some of the facilities of such places as Holiday Inns or Travelodges, is comfortable and friendly and very popular with the locals. The staff are very helpful and co-operative.
It is ideally situated in the centre of Newent
We would certainly stay there again if in Newent.

Little dated in areas but friendly staff who are very responsive to any issues.
Stayed a few times for work now and always the first option for me if available
