Absolutely lovely and very accommodating staff. Really pleased with our stay and the very welcoming staff! Definitely would recommend!

Cheap parking from 8am, free between 6pm-8pm. Remember to inform of any dietery requirements in your booking. I informed them at check in, and they did not have any bread etc (Waitrose was next door) don enjoyed his breakfast

Good alternative if Tebay services hotel is full!
Clean, tastefully decorated room with old photos of local scenes. Tea & coffee-making facilities in room, excellent bar meal - everything you need really. In quiet rural village but within easy reach of motorway.

Comfortable, friendly and convenient stop on the Coast to Coast route, with good food, excellent beer and a very helpful host.

The bar was very pleasant. Bedrooms near the railway very noisy. Good car parking.

For overnight accommodation whilst traveling for work, this hotel provides good value for money, in what is a very exspensive area.

Through in Montrose for a day, and decided to try lunch here. It was way utterly lovely! One of us had a soup and sandwich which was superb, The soup was a beautifully creamy chicken & leek one and the toasted tuna sandwich was hugely filled. I had one of the curries - a very full plateful with all the added assortments! We noticed the portions being served to other guests were similarly large. It's just so nice to see, in a time when a lot of business are cutting back on portions and keeping the prices as high as ever, here it still seems really good value for money. The staff were friendly and attentive too. I'd really recommend this hotel!

What a fantastic Hotel , with great decor , ideally positioned in the heart of Colchester , great staff and delicious breakfast ..
only criticism was that I had a sleepless night ,
Due to an issue with the toilet in our room that meant the water was constantly noisily running into the toilet and couldn’t be used , I mentioned this to a staff member who said it was usually an easy fix by pressing the flusher a few times
( which would indicate it’s an ongoing issue with the toilets ) and when she tried this and it didn’t work I was told that maintenance would have to look at it on Monday .. not much use to me when I only stayed on the Saturday night !
So having a sleepless night took the shine off an otherwise great Hotel

Very nice room , old Tudor building lots of beams and wonky hallways lots of character. Very friendly staff
