What a lovely traditional English pub this is. We came as a family and have been told that the new owners have started to refurb the place and all the rooms have been up graded and refurbished. We loved our stay and they have lovely home made food aswel Will definitely be returning
Spent a night at the George while walking the Coast to Coast path. It’s a fabulous, friendly pub at just the right place to break up the leg from Shap to Kirkby Stephen. A great welcome, a fabulous room which had just been refurbished. I’d been camping and really appreciated the good shower and the epic bed. Dinner was excellent, chosen from a good pub menu. An excellent cold buffet breakfast in the morning, with mountains of fruit and a great bakery selection, rounded off a perfect stay. Drop in, you’ll have a great night. Thanks
Wij vonden het Top bij G George. Perfecte ligging! Rustig maar toch in het centrum. Vriendelijke gastvrouw! Elke dag schoonmaak! Fijne tuin bij het heerlijke zwembad! Het ontbijt was goed, zeker gezien eerdere ervaringen op andere Griekse eilanden.
Prima verblijf, ik denk goede prijs/kwaliteit verhouding, wel aan een lawaaierige straat midden in het centrum vh dorpje gelegen. Ontzettend vriendelijk personeel! De kamer was simpel en gedateerd maar gezellig, netjes, schoon en goed voozien. Ingang naar parkeergelegenheid is zeer smal, niet heel handig voor grote auto’s.
The property is very convenient for National Trust visits, and onsite parking behind the premises is very convenient. Check in until 10pm is handy too as we arrived at 21:59 due to traffic conditions. I already knew that if we were in the attic that our room would likely be sub-par. We were, and it was. The attic landing is musty, doors and ceilings very low, very much feeling like servants quarters. the hotel management are making an effort with redecoration, but this cannot hide the fact that fixtures and fittings need replacing too. Water pressure is so low in the attic that showering is impossible, so set the bath running ahead of time if you want to be clean. My booking showed a photo of a four-poster bed - nope, a double pushed up against the wall for no apparent reason is what we had in a room big enough to be laid out better. We paid under ￡45 on this occasion, and at that price would stay again. The Italian Restaurant on the ground floor serves breakfast nice and early. To check out, simply drop your key in the box outside the building.

Stayed in room 20. This room has been refurbished to a decent standard however I did not sleep very well. I could hear traffic noise and late night shouting from people passing by due to the old windows not being completely air proof. Would have given a higher rating if this could be improved, maybe add secondary double glazing? Breakfast was ok and plentiful. If you’re used to sleeping in complete silence, as I am, then maybe this is not for you

When booking through ******* i put in bank details which confirmed the booking. I was booking for staff members and on arrival they were told they needed to pay. ******* doesn't make this clear that even though you give bank details payment is not taken at the time and you will need to pay at the hotel. Very frustrating when booking on behalf of others.
I felt it was expensive for the standard of the room. We only saw one member of staff who was extremely pleasant, but all she did was book us in and tell us where to go for breakfast.
