Hidden inside the Pearl Pagoda scenic area of Tongli Ancient Town in Suzhou, Fuguan · Governor's Residence Tongli occupies Pearl Pagoda Garden, Suzhou's 69th registered classical garden and the former mansion of Chen Wangdao, a Nanjing Court Censor of the Ming Dynasty. Restored through minimal intervention, its four courtyards and three halls, white walls, black-tile roofs, latticed windows and winding corridors still preserve the measured grace of a four-hundred-year-old official residence, making a stay here a true contemporary sojourn within a living heritage garden.
Only eleven suites occupy the whole estate, each with its own private courtyard and natural daylight for absolute seclusion, while antique carved panels and motifs from the Legend of the Pearl Pagoda weave centuries of heritage into every room. A 24-hour gym, the century-old Songhelou restaurant, a pingtan teahouse, the Youyuan Garden Cafe, intangible-heritage paper cutting and an immersive Pearl Pagoda night tour keep this Jiangnan garden alive from morning to night.
