A truly magical setting that is so popular, as it is even busy on a Monday!!! The food is cooked to order so it is not a speedy establishment, but when you are with friends, forget WiFi, and just talk, it is not one of those fast food chains so it is priced accordingly. Service was friendly and unobtrusive and the servers had smiles on their faces, a rare commodity in todays marke. An enjoyable lunch with two friends.

Pros Beautiful place in idyllic location, close to the river and set in lovely grounds, with hidden seating nooks. Boutique quirky decor, with lots of original features. Spacious room with lovely view of the river, large bathroom with huge shower and quality local toiletries. Large, very comfortable bed with gorgeous pillows. Efficient WiFi. Good quality, delicious food which was well cooked and presented. Cons Not an ideal place for anyone with poor eyesight or mobility issues. Appreciate this is an old building but single steps here and there were not marked and were hard to see in the very dim lighting. No wardrobe in the room, just a row of hooks with hangers on the wall. Could be a problem if staying for more than a couple of nights. No TV though a radio is provided, we ended up using our phones. The shower was extremely powerful, which for the ladies could prove quite painful, some operating instructions would have been really useful. Whilst all the food we ate was great, it was quite a limited restaurant menu which didn’t change. We got round this by having a larger starter as a main. The bar/restaurant service was rather hit and miss, with a few obviously inexperienced staff members, although it was definitely better the second evening. The restaurant was quite hot and on the first night the music was loud and ill-suited, another guest must have asked for it to be turned down before we got a chance. The one piece of advice - get a room away from the front of the building. As it was hot we had to have the window open the whole of our stay. Unfortunately overflowing bins were awaiting collection not far away, and we got a fair few flies in our room, luckily they were emptied Tuesday afternoon and moved away. We were also woken by a delivery on the first morning at 6.50am. Unfortunately the second morning the delivery was at 6.00am, followed by the thudding of music coming from the staff room nearby at 6.30. Gave up trying to get back to sleep when loud voices outside started at 6.45! Would we return? Yes, if we could get a room away from the front of the building and maybe eat elsewhere after the first night. We feel this place could be really great with a few tweaks.

I didn’t check the menu before we booked, so that was my fault entirely, however I was Not expecting the menu available on a Sunday. We were in a family group and had expected a Sunday Roast. Only thing close to that on the menu was a sharing platter of chicken £40 or beef £60 . However the only vegetables available with this was carrots!!! Absolutely disgusting to serve up a whole chicken with a handful of carrots and a couple of potatoes. For 2 people. 2 of our party shared this, I didn’t have any one to share the platter with so I had to have pasta. It was ok but quite bland. I Didn’t really want carbs!!! So thats my first complaint. Secondly I specifically asked the waitress regarding the desert menu. I asked what was in the strawberry sundae. She very carefully listed all the ingredients in the Sundae, she didn't mention “cream”. So I specifically asked her “Does this not have any cream in?” She said no, it doesn’t have any cream. So I decided against it as it was just strawberries with a scoop of vanilla and strawberry ice cream. I ordered the summer pudding which came with lovely crème fresh. The desert’s arrived 3 lovely strawberry sundae’s with you’ve guessed it … lashings of lovely cream on top!!! My summer pudding was nice but it had one tiny drop of crème fresh on the side. Not even enough to finish the desert , so I left half of it! I was gutted. No suprise to say that none of us will be coming back in a hurry!

The service was slow and some items did not even come. One of the dishes was poor in design and execution. It was based on an interesting idea but it failed dismally. Pork - don’t order it. The other dishes were of mediocre design but were well executed. I feel the main problem is the person in charge of the kitchen. I’m not saying they lack experience or “credentials”; they’re just not skilled enough. The place will continue to prosper because there is a shortage of places for holidaying/retired chatterati to eat in the area. The chips were very nice.

We had a reservation and we’re seen to our table swiftly . Nice cocktails and decent wine selection. We enjoyed our dinner of pork chop and beef, (mains) food was well seasoned and flavourful. The large portions were very reasonably priced and welcomed after a full day of walking. Service was good, waitresses friendly and helpful. Overall good Saturday night dinner, we would book again when next in the area.

Stayed at Sculthorpe Mill for 2 nights as seen review in media but was a little disappointed. The breakfast was good. The restaurant meal was very good - well cooked and tasty. Slept reasonably well but the room needed a clean in areas and was a confusing mish mash of furniture that look like charity shop finds. Nice food, lack of management presence and poor cleanliness in areas.

What a beautiful place to stay. Our room was lovely, with beautiful views and the beds were so comfortable, one of the best nights sleep I had. The food in the restaurant is outstanding and it the whole place just has a lovely, friendly atmosphere.

Visited on a Sunday; early afternoon. Not having visited before we found the hotel to be fairly quiet, but the upstairs restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere; the staff were very friendly, and the service was attentive, efficient and informal. We often find that restaurants are rarely able to produce three courses that are, in our opinion, all excellent. Often you leave feeling that one or other of the starter, main or desert courses ‘didn’t match the taste and standard of the other courses’. However, we found all three courses to be excellent. (Pumpkin hummus starter; steak and pork chop mains; chocolate and pear tart deserts). The food and flavours were as good as any of the ‘gastro pubs’ we have visited in the last year, including AA rosette and Michelin listed restaurants. The wine prices were as expected and the 2018 Rioja we had was delightful. The hotel is in a very pleasant setting being at the end of a quiet lane and next to a river and ford. We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.
