Porta Castellana is a small B&B inside of Montalcino. We stayed in one of the larger spaces with a separate living room and 2 bathrooms for 6 nights. This is a quiet location with amazing views. The property also includes parking. Once there you can walk into the town for meals and shopping. The weather was nice when we were there so we were able to have a leisurely breakfast on the lower terrace. Breakfast was great and varied each day. Most days our room was serviced while we had breakfast which was nice. Our stay was very reasonably priced especially for Tuscany. I will say that the highlight is the owner, Annalisa and her son Duccio. They are so personable and helpful. Annalisa arranged two wine tastings for us and made recommendations about other towns to visit. Duccio helped us multiple times driving in Montalcino, taking and picking up our laundry, etc. Our stay was relaxing after traveling 3 weeks.
We absolutely LOVED our stay! The entire property is so lovely and charming. Our room was beautiful and clean, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the proprietor was a joy to work with. I highly recommend staying there.
Dida was an amazing host! Her and her family took great care of us and their property/rooms were perfect, open, quiet and beautiful! She makes a personalized breakfast everyday at your timing convenience and provides many great local suggestions!
We loved everything about Porta Castellana. Beautiful property, delicious breakfast & easy parking. Annalisa & Duccio were exceptionally helpful with local knowledge of where to dine, buy the freshest local pecorino & try Brunello.
AMAZING!
Wow! We were very impressed with our stay at Porta Castellana. They were kind enough to let us check-in early which was a great way to start our visit to Montalcino. Duccio and Dida were very welcoming and took the time to inform us of local attractions including the amazing restaurants etc
The room was clean and extremely comfortable and their linens and towels were monogrammed to boot.
The grounds were lovely and they served
breakfast outside. It was delicious and plentiful with an assortment of pastries, fruit, yogurt and savoury items. We will definitely return.
Word for the wise, if your GPS sends you up a dirt road I would suggest not taking it and following the main road into town.
We stayed at Porta Castellana during our recent visit to Montalcino. It is located a short walk from the center of town. Our room was was clean & the bed comfortable. Our hosts, Dede & her son were very helpful in answering our questions & providing information on things to see plus recommending restaurants. A lovely continental breakfast was provided each morning on the terrace outside our room. Would highly recommend! Should your GPS send you down a dirt road when approaching Montalcino, would suggest you not take that route but drive directly into the town to get to Porta Castellana. The dirt road turns into a single lane and is very steep in places making it very difficult if a car happens to come in the opposite direction.
Amazing stay, our host Annalisa was the best as well as her son Duccio in every capacity. Duccio helped us navigate the area & suggested some excellent restaurants. Not only did Annalisa give us great places to eat, she went out of her way to set up an incredible day of wine tasting for my wife & I, we had the best time. Also loved our room, very clean. Breakfast was served every morning at a beautiful outdoor location near our room, different delicious selections every morning. Look forward to going back!!!
Porta Castellana is a real gem. Beautiful quiet property. The rooms are impeccable and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Delicious Breakfast brought to your room. Dida and Duccio are attentive and gracious hosts. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if I return to Montalcino.
