We have decided not to respond in detail to every aspect of this review. We have already given many explanations and expressions of regret and we are pleased at least that the Guest is finally beginning to recognise that this is not the normal experience and that he was unlucky to suffer a succession of issues that were largely beyond our control. Many happened only during the stay were not reported by the guest (such as a safe that had a low battery warning, or a loose TV connection solved rapidly); some should have been reported earlier by Housekeeping (such as an a/c unit not working to maximum efficiency); for the more serious ones, such as the sudden failure of the pressure pump, the manager worked ceaselessly until midnight to solve them. We also remain disappointed that the Guest is still misrepresenting the purpose of our message upon booking – “Have You Made the Right Choice?” This a well-meaning attempt to fit the right guest to the right hotel, pointing out that we are a small, historic boutique hotel of traditional design, not a large, contemporary hotel. It is important to us that our Guests know what they are booking. It is not remotely a suggestion that we are inferior – as our other reviews show. We agree that the Guest might have been happier in a different sort of hotel and we remain absolutely committed to providing excellent service and hotel standards to our guests who choose wisely and value us for what we provide.
