If I could give this hotel 3.5 I would. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious. We found all the staff to be pleasant and helpful apart from the young man who worked at the rooftop pool area during everyday of our stay.He was unpleasant and not very helpful. He never offered to bring our drinks over to where we were sitting, and never asked if we wanted another drink. He wouldnt clean out ashtrays that had been used, leaving them to blow aound the area. There was an enormous difference from his service to the fantastic service offered by the staff at the downstairs pool.I caught him spitting into a sink at the bar one day,and he constantly stood biting his nails while looking at his phone.I think 10am for the rooftop pool to open is late, especially when the downstairs pool opened at 9am.The rooftop bar area wasnt used much through the day, which was a shame as its a stunning area, however the music was loud, which alot of people complained about. This I think put people offusing it,as it wasnt relaxing unless you could sit away from the speakers. The downstairs pool area was in need of updating as most of the walking area around the pool had broken surfaces. Also the tiles and vents in the pool were dirty. You got tea and coffee in your room on arrival, but this was never replenished. If you wanted extra you had to pay at reception for this.I never had this at any hotel I have stayed in,usually it is replaced daily. The balcony light didnt go off until 12.30am automatically, there was no option to knock this off.Which was a shame was we would of liked to sleep with the curtains open. The gym was very good,as was the spa area, offering a sauna to use free of charge. The hotel was in a fab location a 10 minute walk into funchal old town. There was plenty of restaurants within a 2 minute walk.We ate in the hotel on occasion,it was beautiful when we did.All in all we had a lovely time, but there were certain areas that needed improved.
